What does 2025 have in store if you sail a Weta or Blokart?
Well, as I look at the year ahead it’s getting busy, so if you're planning to set sail in the UK with a Weta or Blokart in 2025, you're in for a treat! The calendar is filling up with exciting events, and there's a delightful mix of social sailing, local races, and even international competitions. Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect:
For those of you interested in the activity of the UK Weta Class you can check out the first draft of the 2025 Calendar of Events. Like last year most published events are organised open handicap races that generally span a weekend.
There is also one confirmed Weta gathering which has been labelled as the ‘Inland Weta Swarm’ in July. Being held at Rutland Sailing Club means it’s nice and central and the inland venue means no tides to work around so you can get on and off the water whenever you like. This isn’t the ‘Nationals’ as that is still to be confirmed. Instead it’s focused on simply getting together for 3 days with some cruising, some training, lots of banter, and a good amount of boat bimbling, After all that there’s the opportunity to join with the host clubs racing on the Sunday before packing up and heading home. With three back to back races it might be a good chance to consolidate any tips and tricks in real race situations before heading home and forgetting them. Feel free to sign up for 3 days, 2 days, or make it a day trip and simply join us for one day on the water – the choice is yours.
The Weta Calendar is attached so check it out and get in touch if you’re keen to take part.
The Central Blokart Club diary continues to roll on as always – that means the third Sunday of each month is club day at Finmere. Yes, even through the winter. The regulars are a friendly bunch and all BLSA Members are welcome to join them. If you have a Blokart but haven’t sailed with others you’re missing out. Feel free to get in touch if you need more details about either the Central Blokart Club or joining the national association.
As always there will be a variety of domestic race events around the country as well as ‘The Brits’. To avoid a clash of events with the European Blokart Championships later this year the British Championships have moved forward from the usual Sept/Oct dates to May 31st/1st June. They will of course be held at Llanbedr in Wales, in anticipation of the 2026 World Blokart Championships being held on the same venue. Over the last couple of years we’ve had a good number of entries from overseas pilots and the 2023 European Open which was held on the venue showcased how capable it is at handling all the logistics and non-racing requirements for well over 100 Blokart pilots, their families and supporters, and all their gear. Entries for that event came from France, Holland, Germany, Lithuania, Spain alongside the usual British faces. There was also a few from as far away as the USA and even some New Zealand participants.
Why not get involved in the UK Blokart scene, start with some social Blokart sailing somewhere like the Central Blokart Club, gain confidence by doing some low key ‘B Series’ races around the UK, maybe take part in the ‘Brits’, then contemplate about taking part in a truly global event in 2026.
